Welcome to “Leonardo da Vinci” High School in Alba

The “Leonardo da Vinci” High School is situated in the historic centre of Alba, in the Piazza San Francesco d’Assisi, with the building itself being of great historic value for the town. It is a high school that combines cultural tradition, international outlook and a strong connection with the territory. The high school offers a study environment focused on students’ personal growth, the quality of education and a dialogue with the contemporary world.  The school is open to international cultural exchanges, study-abroad programs and educational collaborative projects: promoting intercultural encounters, language learning, shared projects and relationships with schools in other countries.

A School in the Heart of Alba

Alba is a city steeped in history, where Roman remains, medieval towers, and Renaissance palaces stand as reminders of its rich past. Today, it is internationally renowned for its outstanding food and wine culture and has been designated a UNESCO Creative City for Gastronomy. Visiting our school means experiencing education within a vibrant and elegant city that is deeply connected to culture, landscape, and local excellence.

Liceo “Leonardo da Vinci” is also located in the heart of the Langhe, Roero, and Monferrato region, an area of extraordinary natural beauty. This territory has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its vineyard landscapes, representing a centuries-old and harmonious relationship between people, the environment, viticulture, and local traditions.

For international visitors, this offers the opportunity to study in a place where education, landscape, art, history, tradition, and innovation naturally coexist. Alba and its surrounding hills provide an ideal setting for cultural activities, educational visits, musical experiences, language learning, and interdisciplinary projects.

Study Programmes

The school offers four academic pathways: the Language High School (Liceo Linguistico), the Humanities and Social Sciences High School (Liceo delle Scienze Umane), the Economic and Social Sciences High School (Liceo delle Scienze Umane – opzione Economico Sociale), and the Music High School (Liceo Musicale).

Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, the school will also introduce the new Made in Italy High School (Liceo del Made in Italy), designed to promote the excellence of Italy’s productive sectors and strengthen their international dimension, with particular attention to the outstanding industries and traditions of the local area.

Language High School

The Language High School is one of the hallmarks of this school. The program aims to provide a solid academic education and communicative proficiency of four foreign languages: English, French, German and Spanish, all studied from the first year. From the third year, a non-language subject is also taught in a foreign language.  Language learning is enriched by the presence of native-speaking teachers, exchanges with foreign schools, study stays, work experiences abroad and intercultural projects. The school also offers Chinese and Polish courses, further broadening the international outlook of its students.

Human Sciences High School

The Human Sciences High School is focused on the study of human relationships, educational processes, and the social and cultural phenomena of the contemporary world. It addresses topics such as communication, migration, globalization, prejudice, and social transformations, enabling students to develop a critical and informed perspective on society. The core subjects include psychology, sociology, anthropology, and pedagogy, with links to research methodology, statistics, and neuroscience. This course of study is particularly suited to those who wish to gain an in-depth understanding of the complexity of human beings and communities.

Economics and Social Sciences High School

The Economics and Social Sciences High School directly connects studies to the social, economic, and cultural realities of today. It integrates legal, economic, and socio-psychological fields and helps students understand contemporary phenomena in depth, developing civic awareness and skills for active and responsible citizenship.

Foreign languages are also central to this path, with the study of English and French, from a European perspective. The program offers a broad foundation, useful for pursuing studies in many university fields, from social sciences to economics, from law to languages.

Music High School

The Music High School is aimed at students who want to seriously pursue music without sacrificing a solid high school education. The curriculum combines basic preparation with a strong laboratory area dedicated to performance, interpretation, the study of two instruments, ensemble playing, and musical technologies. This path also stands out for its connection to the local cultural life, its concerts, artistic projects, and its modern teaching approach, which integrates musical practice and technological tools.

Made in Italy High School

Starting in 2026/2027, the high school will expand its offerings with the Made in Italy High School, a program dedicated to economics and law, the promotion of both Italy's manufacturing heritage, and global markets. This path combines culture, business, sustainability, innovation, and language skills.

It is particularly relevant to the context of Alba and the Langhe, where manufacturing traditions, agri-food quality, tourism, and local identity represent a tangible and visible educational resource.

A school connected to its community

The high school training program goes beyond the standard curriculum. The school

develops various projects in collaboration with local organizations, associations, and

institutions, identifying three main areas of focus: projects for students’ personal growth, international exchange programs, and internships.

In the field of international exchanges, the school collaborates with institutions in France, Germany, Poland, Australia, and the United States, including Medford, twinned with the city of Alba. These experiences allow students to engage with different cultures, experience mutual hospitality, and build meaningful relationships with peers from other countries.

Work placements and PCTO programs also demonstrate the school’s strong connection

with the local area. Students gain experience in schools, social services, educational

centres, associations, and organizations related to tourism and hospitality. In some cases, for example, students enrolled in the Language programme can work in contexts where foreign language skills are essential, such as welcoming tourists during the Alba White Truffle Fair
